# JUST IN: Brad March Prevents Bruins from Signing Jeremy Swayman.
The NHL trade deadline is on Friday, and teams from all over the league will need to make their last-ditch efforts to try and win a Cup.
However, long-term decisions can still be made, and the Bruins might be taking Jeremy Swayman’s trade as a step in that direction.
As to Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, the Bruins have initiated talks to extend their contract with Jeremy Swayman.
With Jeremy Swayman still without a contract, the Boston Bruins have one big move left to make this offseason. The Bruins made a formal commitment to Swayman as their genuine number one goaltender in June when they traded Linus Ullmark to the Ottawa Senators. The native of Anchorage, Alaska is still a restricted free agent as of this summer’s end.
Bruins CEO Charlie Jacobs gave an update on the Swayman discussions earlier this week. “I attempt to remain silent regarding player personnel contract negotiations,” he stated. Sway and I are currently in negotiations. When training camp rolls around, hopefully he is ready to play. We still need to resolve a few issues. I’m sure we’ll get there.”
Elliotte Friedman, an NHL insider, has just provided us with another update on the situation, and it is not good. He stated the following at a recent 32 Thoughts episode: The Podcast: “The last I heard, they weren’t close. I believe that this has been a difficult negotiation, but they still have time, so we will see how things work out.
The news that the Bruins and Swayman have yet to reach a new agreement is certainly cause for concern. Fortunately, as Friedman points out, there is still some time until things get really problematic. The Bruins’ season opener is scheduled for October 8 against the Florida Panthers, and training camp does not start until September 18.
