North Carolina senior guard Seth Trimble has found a unique way to leave his mark off the court: ice cream. The Tar Heel standout recently opened a Ben & Jerry’s franchise in the heart of Chapel Hill, and with it, he plans to honor one of the most influential figures in UNC basketball history — legendary coach Roy Williams.
Trimble revealed that his shop isn’t just about serving frozen treats but also about building community and keeping the spirit of Carolina basketball alive. “Coach Williams gave so much to this program, this town, and the game,” Trimble said. “I wanted to create something that both celebrates him and gives back to the people who supported him all these years.”
The store is expected to feature UNC-inspired flavors, special nods to Williams’ championship runs, and even themed nights where fans can gather to relive some of the program’s greatest moments. Trimble emphasized that this is about more than basketball. “It’s about family, tradition, and showing gratitude in a way that’s fun and accessible to everyone,” he added.
Williams, who coached the Tar Heels to three national titles before retiring in 2021, remains a beloved figure in Chapel Hill. Community members have already expressed excitement about Trimble’s effort to keep Williams’ legacy front and center.
With basketball season approaching, fans may soon find themselves celebrating Tar Heel victories with a scoop or two — and perhaps a reminder of the coach who helped make Chapel Hill one of college basketball’s most storied homes.
