In a major offseason move, the University of North Carolina has officially secured the return of star guard RJ Davis, signing him to a three-year NIL-based agreement that cements his status as the Tar Heels’ new floor general.
The announcement, made early Tuesday by head coach Hubert Davis, marks a turning point for the program as it prepares for a high-stakes 2025–26 season. With Davis at the helm, UNC aims to return to national prominence — and the message is clear: this is his team now.
“RJ has proven himself not just as an elite scorer and competitor, but as a true leader,” Coach Davis said. “This deal reflects our belief in him as the engine that drives our team — on and off the court.”
Coming off a stellar senior season where he averaged 18.7 points, 4.2 assists, and led UNC to a Sweet 16 appearance, Davis turned down professional opportunities to stay in Chapel Hill for one final run. The three-year agreement — made possible through Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) partnerships — allows Davis to continue developing his brand while mentoring the next wave of Tar Heel talent.
Sources close to the program say Davis will play a key role not just as starting point guard, but as a vocal leader in the locker room and a mentor to younger guards like incoming five-star recruit Jalen Monroe.
“I’m honored and grateful,” Davis said in a statement. “Wearing this jersey has meant everything to me, and now I get the chance to lead this team and finish what we started. We’re not just aiming for success — we’re aiming for a championship.”
The return of Davis instantly boosts UNC’s national profile, with analysts already predicting a top-5 preseason ranking. His leadership, experience, and clutch shooting have made him a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the modern Tar Heel era.
With summer workouts underway and the roster taking shape, UNC fans are buzzing — and thanks to RJ Davis, the future of Tar Heel basketball looks brighter than ever.
