The stunning Stana Katic who portrayed lead character of Captain Kate Beckett for eight seasons in ABC’s smash show Castle, will not return for a ninth.
Since the show is 2009 premiere, the 37-year-old actor has portrayed Beckett in the criminal drama. According to Deadline, ABC chose not to extend her contract due to “budgetary issues.”
If the show gets renewed for a shortened 13-episode run, her co-star Nathan Fillion, 45, who plays Beckett’s husband Rick Castle, is anticipated to return for season nine.
“Rather than distract from what was a fantastic experience, I would simply like to say that I am extremely thankful to ABC for giving me the opportunity to be a part of a greatly loved show,” Katic said, declining to elaborate on the reasons behind her leaving. I would like to thank the fans.
Not only is Katic the only female celebrity departing the show, but Tamala Jones, who portrayed medical examiner Lanie Parish, will also be leaving after season eight.
“Kate Beckett has been a cherished character on our smash series Castle for the past eight years,” an ABC statement read. We hope to work with Stana Katic in the future and are appreciative of her ability and commitment to the series. We are appreciative that Tamala Jones was a member of Castle because she has also played a crucial role in the series.
