Stana Katic called in still ‘unclear’ about Castle’s sudden departure.
Former Castle star Stana Katic recently revealed she was “still in the dark about how it all happened” following her abrupt exit from the ABC series. Katic played Kate Beckett from 2009 to 2015, leaving the series before the start of its ninth season. The show was canceled less than a month after Katic’s departure.
In an interview with EW.com, Katik shared her thoughts on leaving Castle abruptly. “It was a painful and difficult ending,” she said. Still, she has no hard feelings about it, even after two years. “I’ve met so many great people on this project, and we’ve collaborated on something really unique, because it’s not every day that you get to see a show or series that’s eight seasons long and has been a hit on a network.”
“It would be a disservice to thank these people for anything other than the work we’ve done together and my work, which I think has contributed in part to the success of the show. Ultimately, it’s been a fantastic platform,” she added. “It’s been a formative experience, and we’ve told a love story that’s touched and inspired people, and I can’t help but be glad that I got to be a part of that. I hope it’s going to be special in the hearts of viewers forever.”
Deadline exclusively reported Katic’s departure in 2016. At the time, Katic’s co-star Nathan Fillion was persuaded to sign a new contract with Castle, but she never made the offer. Original cast member Tamala Jones left the show at the same time as Katic.
