Duke freshman sensation Cooper Flagg opened up in a recent interview about his early impressions of Coach Jon Scheyer’s offensive system, and it’s clear the top-ranked recruit is embracing his new role with confidence and excitement.
“Coach Scheyer’s offense really plays to my strengths,” Flagg said. “There’s a lot of movement, spacing, and freedom. I’m able to create, shoot, and get others involved—it’s not rigid, and that’s what I love about it.”
Flagg, who led Montverde Academy to a national title and was named Gatorade National Player of the Year, is expected to be a key figure in Duke’s offense this season. His ability to score at all three levels and make high-IQ decisions has already drawn comparisons to past Blue Devil greats.
“We’re not just running plays,” Flagg added. “We’re reading defenses and reacting. Coach puts a lot of trust in us to make the right decisions, and that gives me confidence.”
Scheyer has praised Flagg’s maturity and work ethic, noting that the freshman has already become a leader in early practices.
With expectations sky-high, Flagg’s comfort in the system is a strong sign that Duke could once again be a title contender.
