After yet another underwhelming season in 2024, Denver Broncos fans hoped the 2025 NFL Draft would bring clarity, direction, and a spark for the future. Instead, the franchise’s puzzling offseason decisions are fueling concerns that the Broncos are, once again, setting the stage for disappointment.
The selection of cornerback Jahdae Barron in the first round raised immediate questions. While Barron is a promising defender, critics argue the team overlooked more urgent needs—especially at quarterback, offensive tackle, and interior defensive line. With no clear successor at QB and glaring holes in pass protection, the Broncos appear to be betting on marginal improvements rather than meaningful change.
“Barron might be a solid player, but Denver’s problem isn’t just defense—it’s leadership, consistency, and offensive identity,” said one former NFL GM. “They needed a bold move, and this wasn’t it.”
Making matters worse, Denver failed to land a top-tier free agent or swing a deal for a proven veteran quarterback, leaving the offense in the hands of underperforming signal-callers. The team’s inability—or unwillingness—to address the quarterback situation has sparked renewed doubts about the franchise’s direction under head coach Sean Payton and GM George Paton.
While Payton insists the team is “moving in the right direction,” the moves—or lack thereof—are telling. With AFC West rivals aggressively upgrading rosters, the Broncos seem content to tread water.
Fans are growing restless. The echoes of past failed seasons, recycled game plans, and missed opportunities are once again dominating conversations in Denver sports circles. Unless unexpected breakout performances emerge, the Broncos could be heading toward another year of mediocrity—and another season without playoff football.
