Josie Gilvin, a standout basketball player, has officially committed to the University of Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball team, making a significant move from Western Kentucky University (WKU). The 6-foot guard, known for her impressive performances, is set to bring her talent to Lexington for the upcoming season.
Gilvin, who had an exceptional career at WKU, was a force on both ends of the court. In the 2024–25 season, she averaged 13.1 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game while starting all 32 games for WKU. Her sharp shooting skills were evident, as she connected on 41.3% of her three-point attempts. Additionally, Gilvin’s defensive skills were remarkable—she set a school and conference record with 11 steals in a single game, highlighting her ability to control the game on both sides of the floor.
Before her time at WKU, Gilvin was a standout at Sacred Heart Academy in Louisville, where she led her team to back-to-back state championships in 2021 and 2022. Her versatility and leadership were on full display during the 2021 state championship game, where she was named tournament MVP after contributing across the board with points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals.
Now, as a Kentucky Wildcat, Gilvin is expected to make an immediate impact with her scoring ability, strong defensive play, and leadership experience. Her addition comes at an important time for the Wildcats, who are looking to strengthen their roster following the departure of key players. Gilvin’s presence will bolster Kentucky’s defensive lineup and add much-needed depth as they prepare for the upcoming season.
