The NBA is facing intense scrutiny after what many are calling a blatantly flawed ending to Game 4 between the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Clippers. The game, which ended in a dramatic 112–110 victory for the Nuggets, has left fans, analysts, and former players questioning the integrity of the officiating crew.
At the heart of the controversy is a series of questionable decisions in the final seconds of the game, where Nikola Jokic’s airball on a contested fadeaway appeared to have been a blatant foul on the rebound attempt—yet, no whistle was blown. Moments later, with the Clippers having no timeouts left, Aaron Gordon grabbed the rebound and scored the game-winning dunk in the final fraction of a second.
“It’s a disgrace,” said former NBA star and TNT analyst Charles Barkley. “How does Jokic get away with a foul on that rebound? And don’t get me started on the push-off before Gordon’s dunk. I’ve never seen anything like it.”
Clippers fans quickly flooded social media, calling for a full investigation into the officiating. One furious fan wrote on X, “We didn’t lose because we played bad—we lost because the refs handed the Nuggets a win. That’s not basketball, that’s robbery.”
But it wasn’t just fans who were critical. NBA officiating expert and former referee, Tim Donaghy (known for his own scandal years ago), weighed in on the situation, saying, “I’ve been in this league a long time, and I’ve seen a lot, but that final sequence raised red flags. The refs missed at least two crucial calls—one on Jokic, and the second on Gordon.”
The controversy also extends to the NBA’s Last Two Minute Report, which has yet to be released. This report typically evaluates the critical moments of the game to determine whether the officials made correct calls. The NBA is under pressure to release the findings quickly, as many believe the results could shed light on whether the outcome was truly decided fairly.
For now, the Nuggets hold a commanding 3-1 lead in the series, but the ongoing outrage may overshadow what should be a defining moment for Denver’s playoff run.
“The league needs to be transparent and hold their refs accountable,” said Clippers head coach Tyronn Lue, still visibly upset after the game. “We can’t let these things slide.”
Despite the criticism, the NBA has yet to officially comment on the matter, leaving the fate of the officiating crew uncertain.
