“Chicago Bear’s RB Travis Homer —Is he the Missing Piece to Their National Championship Dreams?”
The Bears are re-signing running back Travis Homer to a one-year deal worth $2 million, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Monday. Homer, who turns 27 in August, signed a two-year deal with the Bears in March of 2023. His role has come primarily on special teams, as he has ran the ball just six times for 23 yards between his previous two seasons with the team. He has also caught three passes for 11 yards, with all of them coming in 2024.
Given that Homer led all Bears offensive players with 37.99% of reps in the so-called “third phase” of 2024, it appears that the special teams unit is a major focus of this extension. In addition, he led all offensive players in special teams tackles with five, ranking sixth on the team.
Homer’s role on the Bears thus far and the importance of carrying the ball in Ben Johnson’s offense mean that this move should hardly affect their plans to select a running back
As it stands, Homer currently projects as the third-string running back behind D’Andre Swift and Roschon Johnson.
