Duke University men’s basketball head coach Jon Scheyer announced a significant setback for the Blue Devils’ upcoming season, confirming the departure of two key players from the program.
Junior guard Jeremy Roach has decided to transfer to Baylor University, seeking a return to his natural position as point guard. Roach expressed gratitude for his time at Duke and emphasized that his decision was mutual, aiming for more playing time and a leadership role at Baylor.
Additionally, sophomore forward Mark Mitchell has chosen to transfer to the University of Missouri. Mitchell’s departure leaves a void in Duke’s frontcourt, as he was expected to contribute significantly to the team’s success in the coming season.
These departures come on the heels of other challenges faced by the program, including the loss of assistant coach Jai Lucas, who was instrumental in recruiting efforts. Scheyer now faces the task of rebuilding the team’s roster and coaching staff to maintain Duke’s competitive edge in the ACC and on the national stage.
As the Blue Devils navigate these changes, the focus will shift to integrating new talent and adjusting strategies to ensure a successful 2025–26 season.
