Cole Palmer has been absolutely tearing up the Premier League since joining Chelsea – which is mightily unfortunate for Manchester United.
He ripped apart Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils side last season. The 22-year-old scored a ludicrous four goals against United at Stamford Bridge in what was a severely moralising defeat.
But it wasn’t just Manchester United he tore apart. The former Man City man scored a whopping 27 goals in 41 games for the Blues across the calendar year.
This led to him receiving the PFA Young Player of the Year Award, and it was at this very ceremony he had high praise for a Manchester United legend.
Cole Palmer has high praise for Wayne Rooney
It appears Palmer has a soft spot for Manchester United’s all-time leading goalscorer and undisputed legend – Wayne Rooney.
In a quick-fire interview with GOAL, the Chelsea man was tasked with naming a ‘superpower’ he’d take from a number of players, past and present, from the Premier League. This went as follows:
- Bukayo Saka? Strength.
- Leroy Sane? Pace.
- Trent Alexander-Arnold? Passing.
- Raheem Sterling? Pace.
- Eden Hazard? Dribbling.
- Harry Kane? Finishing.
- Cristiano Ronaldo? Work rate.
- Cesc Fabregas? Passing.
Then it came to that of Rooney, to which Palmer calmly replied – “everything”.
Considering the list of star-studded names, this is a huge compliment from the Englishman. Saying that, it isn’t the first time Palmer has showcased some love for Wazza.
What has Cole Palmer previously said about Wayne Rooney?
Palmer has been a fan of Rooney for some time, from a young boy in fact.
When asked in an interview with talkSPORT who he used to pretend to be in the playground growing up, he immediately chose Wazza.
“Wayne Rooney,” Palmer answered. “Because I was a Manchester United fan when I was younger and used to watch him all the time.”
Could we see him at Old Trafford replicating his childhood hero in the future? Never say never. Jamie Carragher thinks Palmer to United is definitely possible.
