After 15 seasons with the Eagles, Brandon Graham decided to retire. Here are the reasons why.
Brandon Graham always let the door open to return for a 16th NFL season, even after winning Super Bowl LIX with the Philadelphia eagles. Graham already had a Super Bowl championship and his legacy intact, so why come back and play another season? The longest-tenured Eagles player, Graham didn’t reveal he officially was going to retire before the Super Bowl. So what was the tipping point toward Graham’s decision?
Graham was sidelined for several months after tearing his triceps during a Week 12 victory over the Los Angeles Rams. Graham’s only realistic hope of making a comeback was if the Eagles made it to Super Bowl LIX. The game coincided with Graham’s anticipated comeback, and a number of Eagles players wanted to earn a trip to New Orleans so Graham could play again.
It all began with Vic Fangio, the defensive coordinator for the Eagles, keeping us ready and our coaches working hard to deliver that message throughout the week. We had faith in ourselves during that week. All I needed to know was that I was involved in that,” Graham remarked. “Being able to return and spend one final moment with the boys made me feel as though my prayers had been answered.”
Even though Graham acknowledged that he tore his triceps during the Super Bowl LIX triumph, he continued to play until the very end, playing 13 snaps. He considered returning for his sixteenth NFL season, but he made up his mind.
Graham remarked, “I could not ask for anything sweeter than this, but the competitive in me wanted to come back.” “I am grateful that I was able to return and play my final
