Emma Raducanu has parted ways with coach Vladimir Platenik after a brief two-week trial period. The Slovakian coach joined Raducanu’s team before the Indian Wells Open, but their collaboration ended abruptly following her first-round loss at the tournament.
Raducanu, currently competing at the Miami Open, secured a dominant 6-2, 6-1 victory over Japanese wildcard Sayaka Ishii in her opening match. Notably, Platenik was absent from her box during this match, indicating the end of their coaching partnership.
Following the split, Raducanu’s team stated that the partnership “wasn’t quite heading in the right direction.” Platenik, reflecting on the short-lived collaboration, expressed surprise at the decision, especially given the rapid improvements he observed in Raducanu’s game, particularly in her serve and footwork.
This development marks another chapter in Raducanu’s ongoing search for coaching stability. Since parting ways with Nick Cavaday in January due to health reasons, she has yet to secure a permanent coach. The 22-year-old’s frequent coaching changes have drawn criticism from fans, with some questioning her commitment and professionalism.
As Raducanu continues her quest for a suitable coaching partnership, she remains focused on her performance, aiming to regain form and ranking points as the season progresses.
