The Alan “Blind Owl” Wilson Celebration of This Year!
Alan Christie Wilson was born on July 4, 1943, two years after the United States entered World War II, and passed away on September 3, 1970. As a result, he joined the notorious “27 Club” of artists who died at an early age. However, in the interim, he rose to fame as “Blind Owl” Wilson, the primary songwriter and co-founder of Canned Heat.
After beginning his career as a country blues singer in Cambridge, Massachusetts coffee shops, Wilson relocated to Los Angeles, where he met Torrance, California-born Bob “The Bear” Hite, a prospective disc jockey. They got their moniker from the song “Canned Heat Blues” by Tommy Johnson.
