Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX, and Chappell Roan all received recognition from Jack Antonoff for their efforts this year, and he has suggested that the term “Brat summer” be changed to “artist development summer.”
The producer was alluding to Charli XCX’s “Brat” album, which at the time of its release became a cultural phenomenon. After years of honed their artistic skills, Antonoff hailed Charli, Carpenter, and Roan for helping to shape mainstream music in 2024 in a recent interview with Billboard.
“Chappell Roan, Charli, and Sabrina all have this common experience of artists who have been crystallizing, and that is where you find gems,” he said to the newspaper. And that is the artist’s journey. That is the real growth of an artist. And the only way to succeed is to invent your own language, regardless of where we are in the tech or streaming industries.
