Heartbreaking farewell notes were written by Freddie Mercury to Elton John just…
Today, November 24, 1991, marks thirty years since the world lost Freddie Mercury, one of the greatest frontmen in history.
Just 24 hours after disclosing to his millions of fans worldwide that he was battling AIDS, 45-year-old Freddie died at home.
Both Mary Austin, his ex-girlfriend and the “love of his life,” and his bandmates knew about his illness.
One of the few individuals who was allowed to see the legendary frontman in his final days and weeks was fellow musician Elton John, who had also been informed of Freddie’s prognosis.
The singer of Tiny Dancer has spoken of the pain of witnessing his friend’s body degenerate in front of him as the terrible sickness tore at it.
Even though Freddie concealed his illness from others, he still desired to spend his final days with his companion.
However, Elton found what was happening to the Queen leader so distressing that he could only stay by his bedside for a short while.
In his autobiography, Elton stated: “Despite his declining health and inability to move from bed, as well as the sores from Kaposi’s sarcoma covering his body, he remained unmistakably Freddie, engaging in outlandish gossip.”
“I was unable to discern if he was unaware of how close to death he was or if he was aware of everything and was determined to continue being himself despite the circumstances.”
