After 15 unforgettable years, Promise of the Real has decided to take a well-earned hiatus, and….
recorded in West Los Angeles at The Village Studios Produced by John Alagia (Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer), Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real showcases the band’s new six-piece lineup: Tato Melgar (percussion), Anthony LoGerfo (drums), Corey McCormick (bass, vocals), and Lukas Nelson (guitar, vocals). Additionally, new members Jesse Siebenberg (steel guitars, Farfisa organ, vocals) and Alberto Bof (piano, Wurlitzer, B3) are included. Lady Gaga gave moving background vocals to “Carolina” and “Find Yourself,” and Jess Wolfe and Holly Lessig of the indie-pop duo Lucius contributed background vocals on five tracks that evoked the joyful, gospel-rooted harmonies of Exile on Main St. In another section, Lukas’ father, country music legend Willie Nelson, plays a guitar solo on the charming, Glen Campbell-inspired hit “Just Outside of Austin,” while his 86-year-old aunt Bobbi plays the piano.
The 12 original songs on the new album by Lukas Nelson draw from his heritage in country and rock, which includes literary Texas songbirds like his father and “uncles,” Waylon Jennings and Kris Kristofferson, as well as the timeless influence of J.J. Cale, The Band, Delaney & Bonnie during the Clapton era, and of course, his mentor Neil Young.
