Sources: Liverpool hijack Chelsea deal for Romeo Lavia

Before the Brighton star moves in a move estimated to cost between £55 and £60 million, only the formalities of the transaction need to be finished.

Lavia is a clear target for Liverpool in this summer’s transfer window as they also need a deeper midfielder.

The Southampton player has also drawn significant interest from Chelsea, who are working on a deal behind the scenes. Arsenal is also keeping an eye on the situation.

The front-runners to sign Lavia were Mauricio Pochettino’s new squad, but Liverpool’s interest raises the possibility of a dramatic hijack.

Lavia, who left the Etihad Stadium for the Saints last summer, has a buy-back clause in place with Man City at £40 million (2022).

The summer of 2024 sees the start of that option’s operation.

Following the departures of Naby Keita, James Milner, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Liverpool has an extremely urgent need for central midfielders. Jordan Henderson, Fabinho, and Thiago Alcantara are all between the ages of 29 and 32.

Despite Southampton’s relegation, avia left a lasting impression throughout his season there, starting 26 Premier League games out of 35 total appearances.

In March, he received his first senior cap after being called up to play for the Belgian national team.

In other news, Liverpool is competing against four other teams to recruit a star player.
