Regarding hustle plays, Larry Bird said, “That’s what basketball is all about.”

Superstar Larry Bird of the Boston Celtics was more than just the best scorer in NBA history. He was also one of the hardest workers and had a talent for hustle plays that required determination. Like his trash talk, Bird’s ability to dive on the floor in search of loose balls was what made him such a great competitor.

As Bird himself clarified in 1991, he knew no other way to play the game than with a high-octane approach. Even though it was pointed out to him that adopting a rough and tumble style would make it difficult for him to maintain his health, he was unable to change course. But it appears that Bird was onto something, as evidenced by his three NBA titles and three MVP honors.
