Real Madrid announce Karim Benzema is LEAVING the club this summer after agreeing to end his 14-year spell… as mega £345m move to Saudi Arabia looms for Ballon d’Or winner

After 14 years in the Spanish capital, Karim Benzema will depart Real Madrid this summer to sign with Al-Ittihad of Saudi Arabia.

A statement on the club’s website on Sunday officially announced the 35-year-old’s departure and referred to him as one of the organization’s “greatest legends” and a “fundamental player in this golden age of our history.”

Madrid also revealed that they will honor the club captain’s illustrious tenure with the club by hosting a tribute and farewell in the city on Tuesday.

The winner of the Ballon d’Or is allegedly close to signing a two-year, £345 million contract with the Jeddah-based team.

Nuno Espirito Santo, a former manager of Wolves and Tottenham, currently oversees Al-Ittihad, who won the Saudi Pro League in 2022–23 by finishing five points ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nasr.

Benzema refused when asked to address the rumors, asking, “Speak about what? Why discuss the future when I’m in Madrid? He said, “The internet is speaking, but reality is not on the internet.”

‘At the moment, I’m here,’ he continued. Sunday is our gaming day. I am aware of the adoration I receive from Real Madrid supporters. I experience that while I’m on the field.

Benzema appears to have already played his farewell game for Real Madrid, though they play their final game of the season on Sunday against Athletic Bilbao.

He announced his retirement from the team and published a photo of a painful foot gash after their triumph over Sevilla the previous weekend.

If the rumors about Benzema receiving a record £345 million contract are true, the conditions would practically match Ronaldo’s £173 million per year at al-Nasr.
