Liverpool transfer news as Jürgen Klopp ‘ready’ for $22m signing and USMNT star ‘wanted’

Liverpool transfer news: Jürgen Klopp’s side is supposedly ‘willing’ and ‘ready’ to make a $22m signing while a USMNT midfielder is said to be on the Reds’ radar.

Despite having already acquired Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer, Liverpool still needs additional midfielders if it is to return to the level that Jürgen Klopp and his existing players desire for the upcoming campaign.

There is no denying that the previous season was a letdown, and the fact that Liverpool didn’t win any hardware or qualify for the Champions League indicates that the club fell short of both of its pre-season goals.

The key remedy for that will be found in the transfer market, where Mac Allister is a great place to start but more talent will need to be added on top of him to really give the impression of a revamp and renewal.

At least two more midfielders will be added, and it appears that Liverpool will also prioritize adding a left-sided defender this summer. According to Football Insider, Micky van de Ven of Wolfsburg is “high” on the shortlist.

Here is Liverpool.com’s assessment of the transfer rumors that have surfaced regarding the Reds today, including a few well-known names that have surfaced on the rumor mill for some time.

Italian national Sofyan Amrabat

According to Italian daily FirenzeViola, Liverpool is willing and prepared to pay the asking price for Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat, whose value has been reduced by a factor of the Serie A team’s need for cash.

Originally valued at $44 million (£34 million/€40 million), Amrabat is now reportedly available for as little as $22 million (£17 million/€20 million), according to Gazzetta dello Sport (print edition via Paisley Gates).

Amrabat has been linked with a move to Liverpool for some time, although he is not a top priority, according to Liverpool.com. He might be worth considering as Fabinho’s backup at that price, though. He is an excellent player and would give Anfield more depth.

Top action starts September 1

Yunus Musah (Valencia)

Yunus Musah, a midfielder for Valencia and the USMNT, has yet to have any bids accepted, but that is expected to change, according to the Spanish site Fichajes, who claim that bids of roughly $44 million (£34 million/€40 million) would be taken into account.

Both Liverpool and Inter are reportedly interested in Musah, as both teams are looking for midfielders to replace those they have lost this summer or could lose.

According to Liverpool.com, Musah has a lot to contribute and might be someone worth considering for the club, but he may fall into the same category as Amrabat in that other players are more important than him. Given Valencia’s struggles this year, the USMNT international is likely to go on, but Liverpool has other targets to consider.
