Liverpool poised to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton after deal agreed

After agreeing to a contract that is believed to last through June 2028, Alexis Mac Allister will leave Brighton and join Liverpool, pending the results of a physical. Liverpool will fulfill the buyout provision in the contract of the Argentina international before moving on to other targets to complete their midfield reconstruction.

Within the next 48 hours, Mac Allister must have a medical examination. His contract’s buyout clause, which was agreed to just before he left for the World Cup, is considerably less than the £60 million that has been mentioned. The team has a one-year option to extend the contract beyond its initial two-season term.

Manu Koné, a 22-year-old midfielder for Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Khéphren Thuram, a 22-year-old Nice player, are other players on Jürgen Klopp’s list. Both have competed for France at the junior level, and this year Thuram earned his first senior cap. The manager of Liverpool also admires Gabri Veiga, a young player from Celta, although there have been no negotiations for the 21-year-old.

Since Jörg Schmadtke was hired as Liverpool’s sporting director for the summer transfer window, Mac Allister, who made his Brighton debut in March 2020, is expected to be the club’s first acquisition. Moisés Caicedo, who is wanted by a number of clubs, including Chelsea, could possibly leave Brighton.

James Milner, whose agreement at Liverpool expires this month, and Mo Dahoud, a midfielder who is leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of his contract, will soon be unveiled as Brighton players.
