Lionel Messi asks to DELAY Al-Hilal move until 2024 as he angles for Barcelona return

According to GOAL, Lionel Messi has urged Saudi club Al-Hilal to postpone his move there until 2024, igniting rumors of a reunion with Barcelona.

WHAT OCCURED? According to GOAL sources, the Argentine’s entourage met with a Saudi delegation on Monday and asked them to push back a planned transfer to the Pro League until 2024. The Saudi agents were taken aback by the news, however, and informed Messi’s camp that their offer for the following year would differ from the existing deal at €500 million (£435 million/$541 million).

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Messi made his decision just hours after his father, Jorge, expressed his desire to visit Barcelona again, and La Liga approved the Blaugrana’s alleged financial viability plan to allow the return of the club legend. This morning, the two parties met with the possibility of a deal. The news of his leaving from Paris Saint-Germain is already official. Asserting that his son may play in Catalonia again the next season, Jorge Messi told Jijantes FC that “Messi would love to return.”

THEN WHAT? Messi seems to be edging closer to rejoining his old team. However, alternative locations are still a possibility, with Inter Miami and numerous Premier League teams still being mentioned.
