Jaylen Brown Finally Review His…

Ahead of the Boston Celtics’ matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies on Sunday, former Celtics teammates Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown caught up.

Shortly after, alleged “leaked audio” quotes from their interaction went viral, regarding the reason that Boston traded Smart this past offseason.

Per NBA Centel, Smart allegedly asked Brown why he let him get traded to the Grizzlies, who entered Sunday with a 3-9 record:

“Why did you allow me to get traded to this team, man?”

Smart allegedly said. Brown allegedly replied that Smart needed to be traded so that he could receive his record-breaking five-year, $304 million maximum contract extension:

However, not only are the quotes fake, but they also don’t make sense numbers-wise, as the Smart trade wasn’t a salary dump deal.

Jaylen Brown says he originally couldn’t stand Marcus Smart in Boston. While Marcus Smart and Jaylen Brown are good friends, the two haven’t always seen eye-to-eye.

During a recent interview with Celtics reporter Bobby Manning, Brown spoke about how he and Smart butted heads when he first arrived in Boston in 2016.

“I couldn”t stand Marcus at first, and that just goes to show [because] I love him now. I wasn”t the biggest fan of Marcus when I first got to Boston.”

“If I was going to war with anyone, Marcus would be one of my first phone calls,”

Brown said.

Jaylen Brown “wasn’t the biggest fan” of Marcus Smart when Brown first arrived in Boston and said their relationship “didn’t start off great.”

Brown, speaking to reporters before the Celtics-Grizzlies game Sunday, said he didn’t gravitate toward Smart initially for “a plethora of reasons.”

He explained how their bond has evolved for the better over the years.

“I couldn’t stand Marcus at first … and I love him now,”

Brown said.

Smart and Brown played seven seasons together from 2016 to 2023. During that span, Boston made five Eastern Conference finals and one NBA Finals appearance.

Brown said that as you grow, you learn about people and understand why they are the way they are.

“Over time, I realized that me, and Marcus have similar spirits,”

Brown said.

Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown was teammates with point guard Marcus Smart for seven seasons, and the two became great friends in that time span.

Smart, who was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies this offseason, was not Brown’s favorite teammate initially.

The trade sending Marcus Smart from the Celtics to the Grizzlies brought mixed emotions to many Boston fans.

On Sunday, ahead of Boston’s first matchup with Smart’s new team, Brown spoke about his relationship with his former teammate. The Celtics guard even admitted he

“couldn’t stand” Smart at first. But me and Marcus, we didn’t start off great.
For good measure, when discussing the reasoning behind why, Brown explained how he realized that he was wrong about his initial feelings on Smart. But over time I realized that me, and Marcus have similar spirits. And if I was going to war with anybody, Marcus would be one of my first phone calls.”

While the Celtics and Grizzlies are set to square off, Smart will not take part in the game after suffering a left foot sprain that will sideline him for 3-5 weeks.
