It’s EXPENSIVE: Liverpool made Kylian Mbappé stance clear earlier this month amid $300m transfer claim

Liverpool has been linked, yet again, with a transfer move for the incredibly expensive Kylian Mbappé. The Reds are big fans of the player but the reality is clear.

Kylian Mbappé and Liverpool. Although it is understandable why the Reds, who have long admired the French superstar, feel this way, it is also plain why a deal would be nearly impossible.

However, rumors of a transfer to Anfield have persistently persisted. Liverpool and Jürgen Klopp have been mentioned frequently as potential suitors, and Mbappé has already been questioned about them.

Following an exclusive interview with FIFA agent Marco Kirdemir, MARCA claims that Liverpool is once more a potential destination for the player.

According to the Spanish site, Kirdemir has “a very good relationship with Saudi Arabia and Qatari insiders” and Liverpool would be prepared to spend up to $300 million (£236 million/€274 million) to recruit Mbappé this summer.

Real Madrid and Liverpool are also vying for the 24-year-old’s services, with PSG reportedly’very unhappy’ that Mbappé chose not to extend his contract in Ligue 1. This might pave the way for an exit this summer.

It is almost likely true if everything looks far too nice to be true. At $300 million, Mbappé would cost $57 million (£52 million/€45 million) more than Neymar, who PSG acquired in 2017 for a record-breaking sum.

It’s no secret that Liverpool respects his abilities, so why wouldn’t those in control appreciate those of probably the best player in the world and one of Lionel Messi’s heirs for the foreseeable future?

In a presentation at the Cheltenham Science Festival earlier this month, Ian Graham, the former director of research at Liverpool who departed his position last summer, claimed that “any statistical model will tell you that Mbappé is the best player in Europe at the moment”.

“Unfortunately, he is not in Liverpool’s league financially. The players that perform the best per pound are what we’re after.

Liverpool.com says: That last line sums it up nicely: Mbappé is, seemingly obviously, and definitely comfortably, well outside of the numbers that Liverpool could rack up this summer. For $300m, Liverpool could sign more than six and a half Alexis Mac Allisters.

Mbappé is almost inevitably going to end up at Real Madrid and that would be no bad thing for Liverpool. The best-case scenario, given he is unviable as a signing for the Reds, would be for him to end up somewhere other than a Premier League rival.
