Chelsea: Pochettino keen on signing Moises Caicedo ASAP

It’s possible that the midfielder may join the Blues soon.

Chelsea is still eager to finalize a deal as soon as possible for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

What’s new with Moises Caicedo’s transfer to Chelsea?

Football Insider reports that Caicedo and the Stamford Bridge team have informally agreed to terms, and that the club will now likely make an official offer as Mauricio Pochettino looks to close a deal.

According to the source, Chelsea are the only team still in talks with the 21-year-old after Arsenal dropped their interest. A deal for more than £80 million is expected to be reached.

When additional departures are confirmed, the Argentinian will be eager to get rid of some of the squad’s deadwood. Players like Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Hakim Ziyech appear to be moving to Saudi Arabia.

Will Pochettino sign Moises Caicedo as his first Chelsea player?

Getting a deal done for the Ecuadorian is undoubtedly a goal before the upcoming season because the new manager wants to swiftly establish his control over the team.

Additionally, it would send out a strong message to the rest of the Premier League that last season was just a fluke and that they might very well contend for trophies the next year.

During the 2022–23 season, Caicedo was outstanding for Brighton, ranking fourth in the team overall for average rating (7.08/10) and accurate passes per game (53), while also shining on defense, taking the top spot for tackles (2.7) and interceptions per game (1.5), showcasing his tenacious qualities.

With these numbers, the player became one of the best midfielders on the continent, not just within the Brighton team. In fact, Caicedo is among the top 13% of players in the big five European leagues for tackles and interceptions made per game, and one of his best qualities is his passing skills. He ranks among the top 6% with an 88.5% pass success percentage, and Chelsea could certainly benefit much from having him.

Enrico Castro-Montes, an expert on Ecuadorian football, has waxed poetic about Caicedo, praising him as the “crown jewel of a new generation” and maybe one of the country’s greatest players ever.

Caicedo’s success implies that he may be a dream signing for Pochettino. He might provide him a starring role in the Chelsea midfield that could help rocket his game to the next level. His success is not only throughout the Brighton team but also in comparison to his positional contemporaries in Europe.
