Chelsea agree £17m deal for 16years-old Ecuadorian mid-fielder paerz

Kendry Paez, who will join Chelsea when he turns 18 in May 2025, made his top-flight Ecuadorian debut at age 16 and scored the league’s youngest goal ever; Paez led his nation at the U17 Copa America and excelled for Ecuador at the U20 World Cup this summer.

Kendry Paez will join Chelsea for €20 million (£17.27 million) from Ecuadorian club Independiente del Valle.

The midfielder, who only turned 16 last month, will transfer to Stamford Bridge when he turns 18; as a result, he will probably join the Blues in the summer of 2025.

Paez, who can play on the wing or in midfield, made his Independiente del Valle debut at the age of 15, making him the league’s youngest debutant and goal scorer.

He also made his first appearance in the Copa Libertadores – South America’s equivalent of the Champions League – in a 2-1 win over Brazilian giants Corinthians last month.

Paez has shone at international level, most recently scoring one goal and assisting three more for Ecuador at this summer’s U20 World Cup.

Chelsea right defender Reece James believes his team will ‘find their feet next season’ under the direction of new boss Mauricio Pochettino.

He also excelled at the U17 Copa America, leading his nation and scoring twice and dishing out six assists. Last year, he was also voted the best player at the Next Generation Trophy, an international youth event with clubs from all over the world.

Paez’s acquisition is part of Chelsea’s owners’ massive expenditure in the transfer window since their takeover last summer, which is being spearheaded by Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali.

The Blues spent more than £600 million on 19 players over the course of the previous two transfer windows, but they still only managed to finish 12th in the Premier League and failed to win a trophy in the previous campaign.

In the next months, Chelsea is anticipated to have another busy transfer window as Mauricio Pochettino attempts to whittle down the overstuffed and underwhelming squad he inherited.

Mason Mount is a target for Manchester United, and Mateo Kovacic is a target for Manchester City. Other players including Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Conor Gallagher, Edouard Mendy, and Kalidou Koulibaly have all been linked with departures.
