The Boston Celtics improved to 3-0 to start the 2023-24 campaign, earning a 126-107 win over the Washington Wizards Monday night. Jaylen Brown erupted for 36 points, leading all scorers. Jayson Tatum registered 33, and the Celtics held the hosts to 75 points through three quarters. They never trailed in the victory. Now, they return home and will welcome the Indiana Pacers to TD Garden on Wednesday night. Indiana is 2-1 this season, with wins over the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Wizards. Boston had one player on its injury report for Monday’s matchup in the nation’s capital. That was center Neemias Queta, ruled out due to right foot soreness. The only player to make the NBA from Portugal, an honor he takes tremendous pride in, remains the lone team member on the injury report. But in a positive development, he’s upgraded to doubtful. Queta’s yet to appear in a regular-season game, but the seven-foot-center generated 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds in 11.5 minutes per contest in the preseason while showcasing his impressive blend of size, strength, and athleticism. He also displayed his impact as a screener, including on dribble handoffs. Head coach Joe Mazzulla conveyed the following about the former Sacramento King in a training camp conversation with Inside The Celtics. “He’s done everything we’ve asked him to do, and he’s come in every day, and he’s worked. And I really like how he’s gotten better and better each time he’s been on the floor. So, we’re excited that we have an opportunity to develop him.” Copyright ABG-SI LLC.
