Barcelona make executive decision to target LaLiga midfielder as their priority transfer target

Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez have already been added to Barcelona’s roster during the summer transfer window to improve the alternatives available to Xavi Hernandez’s squad.

They won’t be Barcelona’s final newcomers this summer because other matters must be resolved before the start of the upcoming season, with the signing of a new pivot being the most crucial.

Barcelona has been without a natural pivot since Sergio Busquets left earlier this summer, so finding a replacement is imperative. However, they have already failed to reach their primary targets, Marcelo Brozovic, Joshua Kimmich, and Martin Zubimendi.

They have since moved on to Oriol Romeu, and according to Toni Juanmarti, Barcelona has decided to make a play for the 31-year-old.

Romeu’s release clause at Girona is reportedly €8 million, thus it is a financially advantageous transaction for Barcelona, who cannot make significant purchases given their dire financial circumstances. It is uncertain whether they will be able to negotiate a contract for Romeu.
