BARCA’S TROUBLES: Barcelona open to selling 20-year-old defender for €4 million+, but with a buyback option

Barcelona may decide to sell some of the younger players in order to raise some much-needed cash because they have not been able to transfer their undesirable stars thus far this summer.

In addition, SPORT reports that 20-year-old center-half Chadi Riad would be let to go this summer since he lacks a clear path to Xavi’s first-team ambitions.

The Catalan giants’ past season saw the debut of the highly respected Moroccan defender, who is highly regarded inside the organization. He was a consistent member of the Barça Atletic team that advanced to the promotion playoff semifinals in the RFEF Primera Division.

Riad, however, is now lagging behind Eric Garcia, Jules Kounde, Andreas Christensen, Ronald Araujo, and newly acquired Inigo Martinez in the first team’s hierarchy of importance.

As a result, the 20-year-old is expected to leave the Blaugrana this summer and is considering two choices. Barcelona would be open to a permanent deal as long as a buyback option is included, but they would also consider loaning him out.

The Catalans would send Riad on loan after renewing his contract for an additional year until 2025 because it expires in 2024.

If a permanent move is preferred, Barça would need a buyback option added to the contract and would demand a sum greater than €4 million for the young defender.

Xavi has to make the hard decisions

UD Almeria, Andorra, Sporting de Gijon, Watford, and RKC Waalkwijk are just a few of the teams that have shown an apparent interest in Riad.

Riad is therefore probably leaving Barcelona as things stand. Whether it will be a loan or permanent arrangement—in which case, a buyback option will be added to the contract—is the only thing that needs to be decided.
