3 Chelsea star Players To Look Forward To In The Next Season

The 2022–23 season for Chelsea will go down in history as they fell short of the high standards, especially after spending a fortune on new players.

The Blues lost both of their managers, Thomas Tuchel and Graham Potter, and ultimately placed 12th in the Premier League standings. And the club’s failure this past season was undoubtedly a result of poor strategy, poor recruitment, three management changes, including the hiring of Frank Lampard for an interim position.

Mauricio Pochettino, who will formally take charge as the new permanent manager at Stamford Bridge on July 1, has now been entrusted by Chelsea. With Pochettino in charge, the Pensioners would be aiming to significantly improve and move past their weaknesses from the previous season.

Here are the three Chelsea players to watch out for in the 2023–24 season, according to Pochettino.

  1. Mykhaylo Mudryk

Mykhaylo Mudryk was acquired by Chelsea for £89 million in January following his success at Shakhtar Donetsk, defeating London rival Arsenal. He scored seven goals in 12 league games for Shakhtar Donetsk during the first half of the season, but he struggled after moving to Stamford Bridge and failed to score in 17 games. As the Blues placed 12th, the winger was only able to contribute two assists.

While playing for Chelsea, Mudryk struggled to settle into the Premier League and occasionally displayed flashes of his enormous potential. The Ukrainian international will want to regain some confidence and self-belief during this current international break before returning to the Premier League because Chelsea has made a significant financial investment in him next season.

It will be intriguing to see how Mudryk plays after he regains his lost confidence and completely acclimates to the demands of Premier League football. This makes him one of the Chelsea players to keep an eye on next season.

2. Wesley Fofana

Wesley Fofana moved to Stamford Bridge for £70 million from Leicester City last summer, but he hasn’t lived up to his price tag thus far, making only 15 Premier League games in a season marred by injuries.

The young French center-back will be looking for a much more reliable season with Chelsea the following year. When he was healthy enough to play, Fofana appeared to be a superb acquisition and had a chance to team up with the seasoned Thiago Silva in a potent tandem coached by Pochettino.

To realize his enormous potential at Chelsea, the 22-year-old must stay in shape and work on several aspects of his game. After a difficult season, it will be interesting to see how Fofana responds the next year.

3. Fernandez Enzo

Enzo Fernandez became Chelsea’s record acquisition when he arrived from Benfica on January deadline day for a staggering £106.8 million, but the central midfielder only displayed hints of his ability in the second half of the season.

The 22-year-old, who with Argentina won the 2022 World Cup in December, was instructed by Frank Lampard to play a deep-lying role. Fernandez can be even more important to the Chelsea club if he is permitted to participate given his skills and manner of play greater pitch up.

Pochettino alone has the authority to make that choice based on how the Argentinean fits within his philosophy. However, if he is played as an 8 and allowed more freedom to employ his creativity, there is a chance that Fernandez will play to the best of his ability and contribute more in the final third.

The 22-year-old’s game should significantly improve under a manager like Pochettino, making Fernandez a player to watch in 2023–24.
