£100m price tag slapped on Arsenal target Ian Wright has…

Arsenal have been heavily linked with Ivan Toney over the past few months.

However, a report from Sky Sports suggests the Gunners would have to spend big if they want to sign the Brentford star.

The report claims that Toney‘s club value the 27-year-old at £100million, and nothing but a ‘monumental offer’ would convince them to sell in January.

Arsenal have been bright this season, but it still feels like they’re not quite the fully finished product just yet.

For instance, there have been games where they’ve not been putting teams to bed as you’d expect from a team of the Gunners’ calibre.

This is where Toney could fit in. He would be a focal point for Arsenal, a clinical finisher to convert a bigger percentage of the many chances the Gunners create.

The England international is currently serving an eight-month ban for betting offences. This finishes on January 16, midway through the transfer window.

A number of clubs in the Premier League and across Europe are apparently eyeing Toney. This includes Arsenal and Chelsea, according to the report.

However, Brentford fully intend to keep him until the end of the season, and reports of a £50-60million fee have been ‘met with derision’ by the club’s hierarchy.

Toney would no doubt be a great acquisition for Arsenal. Indeed, Ian Wright has claimed that he could be the final piece of the jigsaw for the Gunners.

The Toney links don’t go away because that’s probably the last bit for me in the jigsaw,” Wright said on Stick to Football last month.

“It’s blatantly obvious for everyone to see that’s the last pieces, and he’ll do it, if it can be done, he’ll do it.”

However, a move for such a big player mid-season would seriously inconvenience his club and, as such, nothing short of a huge fee will do.

The Sky Sports report pretty much confirms Brentford’s stance. And Arsenal probably aren’t going to make such an expensive signing mid-season either.
